Bismuth-Based Low-Temperature Chemistry Becomes Backplane Standard
Mini LED backplane substrates are thinner and more warpage-sensitive than conventional printed circuit boards, pushing panel makers toward bismuth-based low-temperature solder paste that reflows at meaningfully lower peak temperatures than traditional tin-silver-copper alloy chemistry. Several leading panel fabs have shifted qualification specifications to require low-temperature formulations as a baseline requirement for new backplane production lines rather than treating it as an optional upgrade path. Suppliers holding qualified low-temperature product lines report considerably longer sales cycles during initial qualification but stronger volume once a fab's production ramp begins, since switching suppliers mid-ramp carries meaningful requalification cost.
