Deferred Fleet Replacement Keeps Old Machines Consuming
Operators facing a permanent decline in office page volume responded by extending equipment life rather than by replacing fleets on schedule, which is entirely rational when the machines are underused. The consequence for component suppliers is that an ageing installed base generates more service work per machine each year, since drive plates wear at around 260,000 pages regardless of how old the machine is. Aftermarket supply reached 43% of units on that behaviour. It is a favourable position built on a deferral that cannot continue forever. That deferral cannot continue indefinitely and everybody knows it.
