European Reformulation Completes Across Major Food Categories
European food and beverage manufacturers have largely completed tartrazine reformulation across major product categories since the 2010 Southampton study prompted warning-label requirements, with MMA analysis finding roughly 78 percent of previously tartrazine-colored products across major European retailers now reformulated toward natural alternatives. Remaining tartrazine use concentrates in a narrowing set of traditional confectionery and beverage products where reformulation has proven technically difficult or where manufacturers have deprioritized smaller product lines facing declining volume anyway. This reformulation completion is reshaping supplier relationships, as European buyers increasingly represent low-priority, shrinking-volume accounts to large Asian producers focused on higher-growth.
