Product differentiation barely exists in the conventional grades. ENplus certification standardises residential quality, industrial specifications are written into offtake contracts, and a tonne of certified A1 pellet from Estonia burns identically to one from Portugal. Competition therefore runs on delivered cost and reliability of supply, which is why participants cluster around feedstock rather than around customers.
Black pellets are the exception and have been promising to be for fifteen years.
